Energy Efficient Amplifiers

Audio amplifiers have always been one of the more 'power hungry' devices in an audio-visual system. 

The latest generation are designed for maximum power efficiency when they are running. They also have an automatic standby state when they are not used.

Although it can deliver 100 watts per channel of top quality audio when idle the Extron XPA 1002 only uses 10 watts of power. In standby that drops even further to less than 1 watt.

This means the amplifier runs very cool and silent without any fans and can be located almost anywhere. The cool running no doubt contributes to the remarkable MTBF of 250,000 hours.

As a system amplifier it also has a big advantage in having no front panel controls. The fact is that most problems with installed AV systems come because of 'user error'. Anything we can do to simplify the user interface and remove unneccessary controls leads to a more reliable system.
