On several stands at ISE 2012 there were examples of transparent LCD screens.
These screens display video of graphic content in the usual way but they also can be transparent so you can see through them. One application example showed a 'Coke' commercial in a fridge door, as the scren cleared at the end you could see the product to buy.
Here you can see technical details of a product and the real thing behind. The problem at the moment is that the 'transparent' screen gives a less than perfect view through to the product.
No doubt we'll be seeing more of these in the future.
