Sporting Wales, Rising Stars Awards

This year, the glamorous, black tie event the ‘Sporting Wales - Rising Stars Awards’ was held in the Village Hotel in Cardiff and hosted by the University of Wales Institute Cardiff.

Previous winners have included Gavin Henson and Olympic champions Nicole Cooke and David Davies. This year’s main award, named after the former BBC Wales sports presenter Bob Humphrys, was won by Jade Jones a gold medal hope, for Taekwondo, at the forthcoming 2012 Olympics in London.

As an approved Welsh university supplier for events and conferences Drake AV provided all of the audio visual equipment needed to make the event a success.
Although on a tight budget, the organisers wanted to make the event stunning and glitzy. So to save on budget we decided to use a stock backdrop set, with a rear projection screen, and highlight the set with some creative lighting effects to generate some sparkle. Taking on board the orange and green event theme colours, which were reflected in the table and chair dressings, we re-produced the colours using moving flame and static LED light effects.

The Drake AV events crew ran a scripted presentation, which included video clips of the nominees and up-beat modern music stings while award winners walked up to the stage.

 
The organisers were delighted, not only with the appearance of the set, but also with the professional service provided by the Drake AV staff running the event.
